Ramadan: Housewives Lament Poor Electricity Supply Amid Harsh Weather

Epileptic power supply in some northern states is frustrating housewives who said cooking for their households is not easy amid harsh weather.

Although the weather situation in the last few days was hostile, it starting subsidizing yesterday. According to a weekly weather situation observed by WikkiTimes, the next 10 days are predicted to be “partly cloudy.”

Aishatu Muhammed Ibrahim, a Gombe-based lecturer and housewife said her major challenge is her inability to store perishable food items in the refrigerator as well as getting iced water for the evening meal (Iftar).

“The poor electricity supply started last week but it’s affecting our well-being already,” she lamented. “You can’t store food stuffs,fruits etc in the fridge, no cold water to drink during iftar, and the price of an ice block is N100. The poor ventilation due to the weather makes it uncomfortable to sleep at night.”

Another housewife from Bauchi, Dayyiba Jibril, complained about similar ordeal. According to her, she could not refrigerate her meat as a result of power outage.

“We only had light for just three hours today,” she told WikkiTimes. 

Sokoto State is known for its harsh weather Nafisa Bala, a housewife in the northwestern state said that there is epileptic power supply in her area. She described the situation as “terrible.”

Hadiza Gona,  a housewife in Maiduguri, Borno State shares similar ordeal. 

“The weather is very hot,” she said. “We only call upon Allah to ease our affairs in this fasting period.”

Ummu Muhsin, a Katsina-based housewife, claims poor electricity supply in Katsina comes around every fasting period. According to her,  they started having electricity issues a night before fasting commenced. 

“I am very much sure it will come back to normal after fasting,” said.

WikkiTimes emailed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) but there was no response as of the time.
