SDGs: ABU to host first universities summit

The Centre for Development and Advanced Learning (CENDAL) in collaboration with Connected development is to host the first Universities Sustainable Development Goals Summit in Ahmadu Bello University.

The Summit which is scheduled to hold from February 27th – March 1st 2020, seeks to host students and professionals from different institutions in Nigeria to drive more awareness around the United Nations Global Goals for sustainable development.

A statement jointly signed by Director of the Center Sulaiman Mukhtar and his counterpart of connected development Hamzat Lawan on Thursday said the Summit would feature Panel Discussions and Paper Presentations from Vice Chancellors and other key individuals from the academia and other institutions.

The statement added that, awards would also be issued to students and other institutions for their active contribution to the Global Goals.

It observed that with just ten years 2020 until the next review for the SDGs, the need for collaboration cannot be overemphasized.

According to the statement, the summit is to hold annually in different universities around the country, while the centre would annually publish a compendium of the summit detailing students concerns, communiques from the summit panels and suggestions on how the government and the United Nations could further advance the achievement of the goals.

“This compendium is to serve as a referral document for public consumption,” the statement added.
