Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. AbubakarY Suleiman has charged members of the National Union of Bauchi State Students,
NUBASS to shun dragging the Union into partisan politics and a platform foraccumulation of wealth.Suleiman made the call during an annual public lecture andaward ceremony of the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi.
Represented by his Special Adviser, Bauchi South, ComradeJa’afar Ibrahim Dass, the Speaker said many students’ associations havederailed from what they were established for and usually engage in activitiesthat don’t add value to their educational pursuit.
“Instead of engaging in partisanship and materialseeking, students unions should promote intellectualism so that we will havegreat leaders of tomorrow. “Our heroes like Late Abubakar Tatari Ali whom thisPolytechnic is named after, have made huge investment and sacrificed theirlives for the growth and progress of our dear State. “We should try to injectthat spirit of patriotism and selfless service in our students”, theSpeaker said.
The Speaker assured that the Bauchi State House of Assemblywill work hand in hand with the Executive to rescue education and promote thewelfare of students in Bauchi State.
He also commended the Rector of the Polytechnic Dr. SuleimanMuhammad Lame for his giant strides in developing the Polytechnic.
Earlier, the President of the Union Comrade AbdulmalikTanimu presented the Speaker with an award as Most Distinguished Speaker of theYear.
