Shun partisanship and materialism, promote intellectualism; Bauchi Speaker charges NUBASS

Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman has charged members of the National Union of Bauchi State Students, NUBASS to shun dragging the Union into partisan politics and a platform for accumulation of wealth.

Suleiman made the call during an annual public lecture and award ceremony of the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi.

Represented by his Special Adviser, Bauchi South, Comrade Ja’afar Ibrahim Dass, the Speaker said many students’ associations have derailed from what they were established for and usually engage in activities that don’t add value to their educational pursuit.

“Instead of engaging in partisanship and material seeking, students unions should promote intellectualism so that we will have great leaders of tomorrow. “Our heroes like Late Abubakar Tatari Ali whom this Polytechnic is named after, have made huge investment and sacrificed their lives for the growth and progress of our dear State. “We should try to inject that spirit of patriotism and selfless service in our students”, the Speaker said.

The Speaker assured that the Bauchi State House of Assembly will work hand in hand with the Executive to rescue education and promote the welfare of students in Bauchi State.

He also commended the Rector of the Polytechnic Dr. Suleiman Muhammad Lame for his giant strides in developing the Polytechnic.

Earlier, the President of the Union Comrade Abdulmalik Tanimu presented the Speaker with an award as Most Distinguished Speaker of the Year.
