Sokoto Varsity Matriculates Over 3,000 Students

The Sokoto State University says it has admitted a total of 3,195 students for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Prof. Bashir Garba, the institution’s Vice Chancellor (VC), disclosed this at the 10th matriculation ceremony of the university in Sokoto on Thursday.

Garba said of the 4,927 applications received by the university, only 2,626 were successful and granted admission across various programmes.

He noted that 394 and 225 candidates were also admitted for postgraduate studies for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions respectively.

He explained that the pioneer students in the postgraduate programme have just completed their first year, while the second set were recently admitted.

The VC stressed the need for students to focus attention on their studies and respect all bye laws of the university to be able to accomplish their mission and vision.

He charged them to shun all forms of deviant attitudes that might be stumbling blocks to academic success.

“As students of this university, you are expected to uphold good conduct and serve as ambassadors of your families, the state and nation at large.

“You should strictly adhere to the university’s rules and regulations, remember, we have zero tolerance for misconduct,” he advised.

Garba also informed the new students about the university’s efforts in training students on various skills acquisition to promote self-reliance before graduation.

He urged the students to embrace self-disciplined, maintain appropriate dress code, and remain dedicated to their studies both on and off-campus.

The VC expressed gratitude to the state government as well as Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for their support towards the success of the university.
