The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the United Nations Children’s Fund Bauchi Field Office (UNICEF) have engaged stakeholders on school Enrollment Drive Campaign (EDC) to address out of school challenge in Ningi local government.
Recall that Bauchi ranks higher in the number of out of school children in Nigeria. The State government contested the data but vowed to address the challenge.
During the engagement, Ningi Local Government Council has assured stakeholders of its commitment to support efforts towards improving education standards and reenrolling out of school children in the state.
The Council’s executive chairman Alh. Nasiru Zakari Ningi also attributed some major challenges of education in his council to insecurity, noncompliance by parents and guardians in sending their kids to schools.
While appreciating the Committee on the campaign, Nasiru Ningi promised to continue supporting the education system particularly the basic education towards complimenting state’s determination at restoring the education standard in the state.
The Assistant UNICEF Focal Officer Mr. Abdulrasheed Haruna said the rationale behind the stakeholders meeting is to advocate for more focus on school enrollment and to follow up with the traditional institutions effort to reduce the number of out of school children for betterment of the society.
He observed that traditional leaders, religious leaders and women groups are closer to the people, hence the need to involve them in the EDC to achieve the desire objectives.
In his contribution, the Acting Education Secretary, Ningi Local Education Authority, Malam Umar Sha’aibu reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders in the education sector to encourage and support parents, guardians to enroll their children in schools for better a society.
