Mohammad Bago, the governor of Niger state, has said that wearing native wears like Kaftan and Babanriga to office during working hours is not allowed.
In a two-minute video obtained by WikkiTimes posted on the Africa Independent Television (AIT)’s X handle, the governor while presenting the 2024 budget on Tuesday at the state house of assembly stated that he had not in any way banned the use of native wears to farms.
“There is a very huge misconception in the public. I have only said anybody working in my government, in the ministries of works, agriculture and any physical ministry or parastatals cannot wear Agbada to office,” he added
“I did not ban the use of Agbada [Kaftan and Babanriga] and if you see, my SSG is wearing suit [but] a lot of people have dressed differently,” he clarified
The governor during the activities of the budgetary presentation also adopted the name ‘former’ governor rather than be addressed as ‘His Excellency’, or ‘Mr. Governor’.
“I want to inform the general public, that as from today hence forth, my nomenclature is former governor Bago. I wish to be addressed like that henceforth,” he said.
