Youth activists in the country under the auspices of ‘Activista Nigeria’ have advocated that women should be given equal opportunities to work in the formal sector like men.
National coordinator of Activista Nigeria Mary Jacob made the advocacy yesterday during a rally and launch of campaign with focus on ‘women labour, decent work and public service’ organized by the international human right organization called ActionAid held in Abuja.
“Activista Nigeria joined the mother organization, ActionAid Nigeria for the Campaign Launch with focus on “Women Labour, Decent Work and Public Service”. This launch held on the 8th of May, 2019 with a street march, conversation and massive social media engagement”. She said.
According to her, the campaign is as a result of the inhuman treatment of women, mostly in the Nigerian’s informal sector where women are over worked and underpaid.
She assured that the campaign would continue until Nigeria enforces legal and regulatory measures to ensure gender responsive work environment, with equal pay and zero discrimination against women.
” We are encouraging all women to stay steady and fight for their rights to a safe and equal work place, and to every citizen of Nigerian to join us in this fight for an equal and just society”.
