23-Year-Old Garden Egg Seller in Police Net for Alleged Sodomy

Police operatives in Bauchi have arrested a 23-year-old garden egg seller, Sanusi Umar for allegedly sodomy in Bauchi metropolitan city.

Sunusi, who hails from Jingino village of Gwaram local government area of Jigawa State was arrested on 28th March by police operatives after he allegedly lured a ten-year-old boy with a 30 naira sweet to an uncompleted building and had carnal knowledge of him.

Confirming the arrest, Ahmed Muhammed Wakili, Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect leveraged on the unsound mental condition of the victim to perpetrate the action.

“Operatives attached to Operation Restore Peace (ORP) Bauchi State Police Command arrested Sanusi Umar ‘m’ 23 years old on the 28th March 2024 at about 2100hrs for raping a 10-year-old boy (name withheld)”. 

“The suspect lured the minor with a thirty naira (N30) sweet and asked the victim to accompany him to an isolated area behind the AIB filling station along Kofar Ran to defecate. After the defection, the suspect asked the victim to undress his trouser that he wanted to see whether he clean his anus. Upon removing his trousers, the suspect also removed his trousers, grabbed the victim from the back and had canal knowledge of him. The victim rushed to the manager of the filling station and informed him that the said suspect had canal knowledge of him”, said Wakili.

According to the statement, the suspect has been hawking garden eggs at AIB filling station along Kofar Ran, Bauchi for at least two years, noting that the victim was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi alongside the suspect, where different tests were conducted on him to determine his health status. 

While appealing to parents to ensure good moral upbringing of their wards towards achieving a crime-free society, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed assured that the command is committed towards the safety of lives and properties of the citizens.

“The investigation is still in progress, after which the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation”, added Wakili.
