The committee set up bythe Bauchi State Government to verify the authenticity of the over 41,000 suspected
non-existent workers and pensioners in its payroll says, it has not asked anyof the affected persons to submit his/her Bank Verification Number BVN.The committee made the clarification following alleged extortion of N525 from the affected workers and pensioners by a commercial bank in the state capital, in the name of BVN search and print out.
Some of the affected workers trooped to the bank ‘in question’ to obtain the BVN print out and the financial house is now a beehive of activities since the beginning of the week.
Speaking to newsmen inBauchi, the secretary of the committee Isiaka Tijjani said they have not issuedsuch directive to anybody, adding that the affected workers were doing that attheir own peril.
“We are yet to start dealingwith the affected workers individually, and may be they are doing that to equipthemselves”, says Tijjani.
On the amount beingcharged by the said bank, Tijjani said the fee is exorbitant.
WikkiTimes gathered that for those who have money in their account, the amount is being deducted directly by the bank, while those whose account is empty, had to lodge the requested amount in cash before the BVN print out is issued them.
