The Kwara state government has for the second time withheld November salaries for local government and local education authorities not yet registered with the state Resident Registration Agency.
Hauwa Nuru, the state’s Finance Commissioner said 22% of staff of the LGAs in the state have not been paid due to lack of compliance with the registration exercise.
Mrs. Nuru in a statement by Babatunde Toyin Abdulrasheed, the ministry’s Press Secretary, noted that the percentage of defaulters at the LGAs stood at 22% and only 3% of the SUBEB staff.
“For the Local Government Areas, 77% of the workforce has been paid, while 23% remaining are those who have not complied with the KWSRRA requirements,” she said.
She however, said out of the 18467 state government employees, 97 of them have been paid their November salaries and bonus.
Mrs Nuru further said any genuine employee who is yet to receive his/her November salary should validate his claim with the Agency and the Ministry of Finance.
According to her, the representatives of the labour unions have been notified of the development, noting that a clear data has been provided to them and the procedures for claims by bonafide workers have been explained.
“The government is committed to resolving all outstanding issues so that no bonafide worker is left unpaid. We urge our compatriots in the labour unions to fully support this transparency initiative which is meant to serve the interest of everyone”, said Nuru.
