Bauchi to Create Ministry for Livestock Development

The Bauchi State Government has concluded plans to establish a Ministry of Livestock Development to boost the subsector and modernize livestock business in the stately.

Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed this when he received members of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee (PLRIC) at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday.

Governor Mohammed explained that Bauchi is peaceful and has vast forests with the potential to enhance food security and create job opportunities if properly utilized.

He assured the committee that his administration would provide the necessary resources to support federal government initiatives in the Sullubawa community in Bauchi to promote economic growth in the state.

He added that Bauchi would establish a committee to design a blueprint for livestock sector reforms in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Co-chair of PLRIC, Professor Attahiru Jega, commended Bauchi’s commitment to leveraging the livestock sector for economic development.

The former chair of the electoral body said the committee’s visit to Bauchi was to engage stakeholders and raise awareness on the importance of livestock sector reforms.

Professor Jega stressed that the sector has immense potential to drive national economic growth and create job opportunities.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the PLRIC in July 2024 with the mandate to recommend ways of addressing challenges in the livestock sector and unlock its potential to improve the nation’s economy.
