Amid Students’ Misfortunes In Mathematics, UBEC Trains 90 Bauchi Teachers

As Mathematics continue to be the most abhorred subject among students across all levels of learning in Nigeria, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with National Mathematical Centre (NMC) has trained 90 Mathematics teachers in Bauchi.

The training, WikkiTimes learned was designed to empower participants with skills to effectively use Mathematical kits to impart practical knowledge of the subject to students.

Mr Promise Mebine, Chief Executive Officer of NMC, represented by the Registrar of the centre Mr Azuka Benerd said the NMC was set up by the federal government to look at ways of improving the teaching and learning of mathematics.

He said many materials have been developed by the centre to ease the teaching of mathematics and one of which is known as the ‘mathematics kits’.

“These kits are instruments for basic teaching and learning of mathematics.

“Having produced these, the centre is now collaborating with UBEC to see that all these kits get to schools because, in teaching, the general principles are things before ideas and ideas before words.

In 2021, 70 percent of the candidates that sat for the internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) organised by NECO obtained credits in both Mathematics and English Language.
