Heavily armed gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed one person and abducted unspecified number of women and children in Dumfawa Community of Zurmi, local government area of Zamfara state.
The waylaying gunmen who stormed the area in their large numbers on Friday, were said to have started shooting sporadically to instil fear in the minds of locals before they abducted women and children, a pattern they applied four days ago to unleash mayhem in the community.
A local source who craved anonymity due to safety reasons, told WikkiTimes on phone that the number of people abducted is not yet ascertain as many have fled to safe zones.
According to locals the area lacks presence of security personnel, hence they became prey to terrorists attacks who after carrying out their heinous acts, retreat to nearby forest unhindered.
“They have abducted many children and women. The attack happened on Friday. The whole community is in panic”.
“It happened four days ago and during last attack, they set shops ablaze. We don’t have security personnel there. We are vulnerable to attacks even though we are close to Moriki and there are securities there”, he told WikkiTimes.
WikkiTimes recalled that this attack is coming barely days after the suspended Zamfara Community Protection Guards (Askarawan Zamfara) Commandant complained of poor funding to the guards who are supposed to be in hard to reach of the state which are mostly soft targets for terrorists attacks.
However, when contacted, Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesperson said he is not aware of the incident but will find out and revert, but he is yet to do so as at press time.
