The Bauchi state house of assembly has moved a motion seeking the state government to create enough refuse collection points so as to forestall possible outbreak of diseases.

A press statement issued to WikkiTimes by the spokesperson to the speaker of the state assembly, Comrade Abdul Burra said that the decision followed a motion moved under matters of urgent public importance by the Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Tijjani Aliyu.

The Wednesday plenary which was presided over by the speaker, Rt. Honourable Abubakar Suleiman saw the lawmaker representing Azare/Madangala raising concerns over indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the state despite government’s efforts of ensuring a cleaner environment.

“It is very disheartening that the State Capital is filled with refuse despite the outbreak of diseases such as lassa fever and coronavirus in some places. “People dump refuse on the roads, shops, houses and everywhere. All effort to stop this culture has proved abortive”. Honourable Tijjani decried.

The Leader who observed that there are insufficient designated areas for dumping of refuse in the state, urged the state government to as a matter of urgency, buy plots of land and designate them as refuse dumping sites before endemic diseases befall the people of the State.

Contributing, the Deputy Speaker of tbe house, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule of Zungur/Galambi/Miri Constituency described the matter as a very important one as it affects every citizen of the state.

The deputy speaker who took time to explain the dangers associated with indiscriminate dumping of refuse, said it is capable of causing diseases.

The measures put in place by the government according to Jibir, which include strengthening of BASEPA, monthly sanitation and some as well as engagement of companies for clearing refuse.

He advised that the government should employ many unemployed professional environmentalists even on a casual basis in order to go to all nooks and crannies to ensure compliance.
