The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman has suspended today’s plenary over the boat mishap that claimed many lives in Kirfi Local Government Area.
The Speaker immediately led a delegation of the legislators to Kirfi to commiserate with the people of the local government.
Speaking at Kirfi Local Government Secretariat and Palace of the District Head of Kirfi, Abubakar Suleiman said they were shocked to receive the tragic news of the mishap that killed many people which he described as national tragedy.
He said immediately after receiving the news, the House immediately suspends its sitting to honour the deceased and pay sympathy visit to the area.
In his remarks, the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Kirfi LGA Alhaji Abdu Bappa Bara thanked the Speaker for the visit.
He explained that about 31 people were on board when the boat capsized in the river and only 12 people were rescued, while four dead bodies were recovered.
