Kwara Receives N50.1 Billion Local Government FAAC Allocation in 2023

A WikkiTimes review of the National Bureau of Statistics report has shown that Kwara State received the sum of N50.1 billion in 2023 as Federation accounts allocation for local governments.

A review shows that the highest amount was received in August, when N6.25 billion was gotten by the state. 

In April, Kwara received its lowest allocation for local governments with N3.178 billion .

With sixteen local governments in the state, it would mean that on the average , each state got N3.125 billion for the 2023 fiscal year.

Kwara is no stranger to controversies surrounding the management of its local government funds.

In 2019, the state denied mismanaging local government funds.

In 2020, the state also denied that a ministry under it withdrew N300 million from the local government account.

In August 2023, Kwara was one of the states accused of diverting local government funds by the NULGE (National union of local government administration).

The proper management of the FAAC allocation in Kwara is pivotal to its rural development, this is given that a larger percentage of funds in the state is sourced from FAAC allocations.

Analysis shows that between 2017 and 2021, the local governments in the state recorded only N1.5 billion independent revenue, showing that in five years, the local governments made only 3% of the total revenue they got from FAAC in 2023 alone.
