Bauchi asset recovery committee to submit report on 12 February

Bauchi state funds and asset recovery committee constituted by governor Bala Mohammed on Friday July 12, 2019 and mandated to investigate and recover looted assets belonging to the state government within three months will submit its report on the 12 of February this year, the state governor, Bala Mohammed has said.

WikkiTimes in an exclusive story has reported how the committee failed to submit its report even after exhausting the stipulated time given to them by the state governor.

Governor Bala while answering question from newsmen in Bauchi after his victory at the Supreme Court said the committee will soon submit its report to enable the state weigh the magnitude of damages done by the previous administration.

WikkiTimes recalled that the governor while setting up the committee said it will help them track the stupendous but unaccounted money received from the federation account by the previous administration.

Bala Mohammed at the time lamented that the total revenue collected by the immediate past administration in the state stood at over N400 billion, adding that the state government owes it retirees over N27 billion naira in gratuities.

WikkiTimes also reports that the committee had in October held a press conference at VIP 9 in the state capital where it indicted former Governor Abubakar for auctioning to himself, seven luxury and utility  vehicles belonging to Bauchi State Government, which it said was in violation of provisions of Bauchi  State  Budget  Monitoring , Price Intelligence  and  Public  Procurement Law.

Investigation by WikkiTimes also unveiled that the committee could not also stands by its terms of reference in meeting the deadline upon which it was asked to submit its report.

A member of the committee, Umar Barau Ningi assured that the committee is working within the time frame allocated to it.

“My brother, I can assure you that the committee was given additional extension of time on the expiration of the three months.

“So, the committee is working within its time”, he said.
