Bauchi Communal Clash: Bauchi Govt Cautions Locals Not to Disrupt Peace

Bauchi State government has cautioned people of Bogoro local government of the state who are reportedly planning to create mayhem over the arrest of Air Commodore Ishaku Komo, the Chief of Sayawa land.

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that police had arrested Komo, and six others following the April 15 communal clash in Sang Village of the local council. The clash claimed a 70-year-old man as others were injured. Over 70 houses and shops were said to be set on fire.

The command’s spokesman, Ahmad Wakil in a statement on Friday said the crisis erupted following the coronation of the Komo as the Hamlet Head, which he said led to a violent protest by youth.

A few hours later, the state government noted that it was fully aware that some people in the area were planning to disrupt the peace in the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed who spoke through his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado said the state government has observed that the ‘self-acclaimed’ monarch, contravenes Chapter 24, sections 3 and 4 of the Appointment and Deposition of Chiefs, Law of Bauchi State.

“The attention of the Bauchi State Government has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous elements whose main objective is to disrupt the hard-earned peaceful coexistence prevailing in the state.

“Part of their stock-in-trade is to enlist unsuspecting members of the public to embark on agitations following the commendable efforts of law enforcement agencies that have arrested one Air Commodore I Komo (RTD), the self-acclaimed “Gung Zaar,” the Sayawa monarch.

“Government is aware that the timely action by security authorities was aimed at calming down tension in Bogoro Local Government Area and environs where the self-acclaimed monarch has illegally appointed a local chief for Sang Village, which resulted to the disruption of peace by burning of houses and loss of one life.

“The Government observed with disdain that the self-acclaimed “ Gung Zaar“  retired Air Commodore I. Komo, contravenes Chapter 24, sections 3 and 4 of the Appointment and Deposition of Chiefs, Law of Bauchi State,” he started.

The governor, however, commended the action of law enforcement agencies on the arrest of suspects so far and directed that a thorough investigation be initiated in conjunction with the office of the State Attorney General with a view to prosecuting anyone found wanting in connection with the incident.

“Government calls on the people of Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas to distance themselves from persons and groups whose conduct and actions are capable of constituting a threat to peaceful and harmonious coexistence amongst our law-abiding citizens,” he said.
