Bauchi state government has constituteda 17 member authentication committee to resolve the salary imbroglio that has
affected over 41,000 staff and pensioners without Bank Verification Numberunder the state’s payroll.In a statement made available tonewsmen, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity,Muktar Gidado said the 17 member committee’s terms of reference include toinvestigate whether the over 41,000 staff being paid monthly were genuine staffof the state.
The committee was also mandatedto fish out all collaborators who conspired with the previous administration inpaying the affected staff without following due process.
The committee members include butnot limited to; Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba as chairman, Executive Chairmanstate universal Basic Education Board and Executive Chairman, Primary HealthCare Development Agency.
The Committee members alsoinclude representatives of the organized labour unions, Chairman Nigeria Unionof Local Government Employees and were expected to submit its reports withintwo weeks.
WikkiTimes recalls that in two separate statements last week, the state government had declared that, it will not pay October salary to any civil servant without BVN, in what it called an attempt to block leakages in the state and local governments payrolls.
But the two unions-Nigeria Labour Congress NLCand the Trade Union Congress responded swiftly, asking the state government to rescind on its decision, which includingsuspension of education secretaries, local government primary health caredirectors and local treasurers.
