Bauchi State Government is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with a Rivers State based fertilizer company, Notore Chemicals Industries to provide farmers with farm implements and fertilizer at affordable price.
A statement signed by the Governor’s media aide Mukhtar Gidado said the Governor made the pledge on Thursday evening when he hosted management of the company for a crucial discussion at the Council Chamber, Government House Bauchi.
Governor Bala Mohammed said under the agreement, the state government will also ensure timely provision of extension services to potential farmers so as to improve their knowledge and capacity on farming activities.
He said the target of his administration is to increase yield and production, create more extension services and wealth to strengthen agricultural production capacity in line with its agricultural policy.
“Notore is so important to us because our industries are not fully functional because of the capacity of our economy, but in Bauchi we have the best land for agriculture.”
“Definitely, Notore is a success story of privatisation and I want to assure you that, we are not only grateful that you have come to exercise some corporate social responsibility by building an integrated water project in Kangere.”
The Governor said his administration will harness the agricultural opportunities of the state to develop the sector and improve Internally Generated Revenue.
Governor Bala Mohammed directed the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources to work with the company for the production of fertilizer in the state’s fertilizer blending company.
Mr Tijjani ST James who is the leader of the delegation, said the company will support the state government to assist farmers to access fertilizer at affordable prices.
“Your Excellency, we are delighted to be with you today, our company is ready to work with you for farmers to benefit from your laudable agricultural policy.”
Mr Tijjani James said Notore is one of the leading fertiliser and agro-allied companies in Africa with principal activities on manufacture, treat, process, produce, supply and deal in nitrogenous fertilizer and all substances suited to improving the fertility of soil and water.
