Bauchi High court discovers 55 ghost workers

The Bauchi state Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar said Bauchi State High court has discovered 55 ghost workers milking the state in salary emoluments every month.

Justice Rabi who made the disclosure during the commencement of 2019/2020 Legal Year in Bauchi state said the state high court which constituted a high powered committee had already discovered the ghost workers even before the verification committee constituted by the Bauchi state government visit the ministry.

She said the committee was constituted in order to sanitize the ministry and get rid of ghost workers.

On the performance of the judiciary in the preceding year, Justice Talatu Umar said the High Court has generated over N35 million in fines and has registered 974 Civil and Criminal cases.

At the occasion, Bauchi state governor Bala Mohammed assured the people of the state that his administration will operate within the ambit of the law in order to ensure efficient justice-sector delivery.

Governor Bala Mohammed noted that since assumption of office, he strive hard to justify the mandate given to him by the people of the state through prudent, equitable and fair play.

He said the administration will remain an advocate of Justice, fair play, Rule of Law and will support the Independence of the Judiciary.

“I will at this point, commend the performance of the judiciary in the disposal of cases within the last legal year, having disposed off about 2 over 3 cases filed. Even though I am not a lawyer but in the legal parlance ‘ Justice delayed is Justice denied’ should be our guiding principle.

“Government is aware that a conducive environment—both office and residential, enhances productivity. “To this end, we will continue to execute all ongoing projects at judges residential quarters, The High Court Complex, Magistrate and other District Courts within our resources”.

Bauchi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Yakubu Bello Kirfi explained that the legal year is an opportunity to improve where the need arises, sustain achievements and initiate new innovations for optimum performance.
