Bauchi rice farmers to get loan for dry season farming

Thirty thousand rice farmers in Bauchi State are to benefit from loan for dry season farming, the State Chairman, rice farmers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Yahaya Adamu Yusuf has said.

Dr Yahaya who made the disclosure during the flagging off of the distribution of the commodities in Bauchi, explained that the loan was under the Anchor Borrower’s programme for this year’s farming.

He recalled that with the commencement of the programme in the state, it had boosted the economic status of the beneficiaries in addition to the advancement of the agricultural sector.

According to him, with the support of the Bauchi State Government, over twenty thousand rice farmers in the state have benefited from the Anchor Borrower’s programme.

The chairman who explained that the farm inputs were distributed to the beneficiaries based on the need of their farmland, appealed to them to ensure timely repayment of the loan to enable others benefit.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Commissioner for Agricultural and Natural Resources, Barrister Yakubu Kirfi described the Rice Farmers Association as strategic partners of the state government in view of the expertise of the members of the Association.

The Commissioner warned the beneficiaries against selling of the commodities, and reassured of government’s support to farmers as a measure to boost their farming activities.

The representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the occasion, Alhaji Umar Shehu expressed concern for the non repayment of the loan by the benefiting farmers in the north east.
