The Bauchi State Government in collaboration with the World Bank’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) have trained 80 Fulani women who are in business of milk production on hygienic milk handling and process.
The training aimed at improving the business to produce quality and healthy products to the people while increasing their income.
WikkiTimes learnt that 80 Fulani women across the 20 local government areas of the state participated in the traning.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the programme held at Hazibal Hotel, Bauchi, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Alhaji Musa Adamu, said the women were trained on Animal Milk hygiene and protocol with qualified facilitators from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi.
Adamu noted that the project was aimed at improving agricultural activities particularly in five key areas related to farmers and herders which include providing motorized boreholes in Alkaleri, Tafawa Balewa and Gamawa LGAs.
According to the project coordinator, L-PRES is collaborating with the Bauchi State College of Agriculture to plant improveg grass in some designated grazing reserves in the state.
He noted that the project aimed at improving animal veterinary services and intensify vaccination while providing potable water to cattle market as well as construction of modern abattoirs in the state.
Earlier in his presentation, Professor M. Abubakar of ATBU explained good practices on milk hygienic and ways to improve healthier society that seeks to transform livestock production into commercially oriented enterprises for sustainable food and nutrition security in the country.
Some of the trainees expressed their gratitude to L-PRES for equipping them with knowledge that will enable them to improve and expand their milk businesses to make more profits and create job opportunities.
