Bauchi state Governor Bala Mohammed has suspended with immediate effect, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, Nura Dan Maishari’a over highhandedness and his inability to stop indiscriminate felling of trees in his area.
The suspension letter which was signed and released to journalists by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Sabiu Baba on Thursday said, “government has observed with dismay, your lackadaisical attitude towards running the affairs of the local government.”
“The way in which you have been frequently absconding from meetings of local government chairmen is a dereliction of responsibility,” the statement read in part.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mohammed Sabi’u Baba said that the suspension is to facilitate proper investigation into the allegations to enable government take final decision on the matter appropriately.
The statement added that the suspended chairman has not been engaging the local government stakeholders in managing the affairs of the council as the act violates the principles of representative government.
The Secretary to the State Government said currently Ningi Local Government is witnessing indiscriminate feeling of trees under his watch which is inimical to the avowed commitment of the present administration in combating desertification and environmental issues.
Other sins of the caretaker chairman according to the statement include his deliberate refusal to recognize the appointed administrative secretary whose nomination was in the interest of the entire local government.
The Governor directed the suspended caretaker chairman to handover the affairs of the local government to his deputy along with all government’s property in his possession.
