CLEEN Foundation To Present Whistle Blower Bill To Bauchi Assembly

CLEEN Foundation, a civil society organisation, has completed arrangements for the presentation of a bill seeking to domesticate the Federal Government’s Whistle Blower policy in Bauchi State before the State House Assembly.

CLEEN Foundation has selected Bauchi State as a pilot state for the domestication of the Whistle Blower policy in Nigeria as part of its efforts to ensure a corruption-free society.

Mr Nnamdi Odo, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer CLEEN Foundation, stated this during the project outcome assessment of the programme implemented in the state in a period spanning three years.

He said that CLEEN Foundation has engaged the Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abubakar Sulaiman on the need to domesticate the policy in the state to fight corruption.

“The project started with engaging the civil society organisations on the ground in Bauchi State who drafted the bill which stakeholders are now looking at for onward presentation to Bauchi State House of Assembly,” he said.

Mr Mbami Iliya Sabka, Executive Director PIDI, in his welcoming remarks, said that the struggle to get rid of corruption in Bauchi State through legal apparatus continues unabated which will saw the domestication of the Whistle Blower Policy in Bauchi State.

Mr Sabka commended the realm of stakeholders who in one way or the other contributed towards the drafting of the bill saying ‘you have been supportive and accommodative.’

He assured that considerable energy will be exerted on ‘pushing for the effective implementation of the Whistle Blower Policy in Bauchi State.’

Hajiya Sha’awanatu Yusuf, Acting Director Public Prosecution Bauchi State Ministry of Justice, said the bill for the domestication of the Whistle Blower policy in the state has the potency to clean corruption from public and private offices in the state thereby allowing the state to move forward on the track of development.

She added that the bill if passed into law, it will serve as a mechanism to deter other people from indulging in perverted practices at the mercy of public interest.
