Eid-el-Kabir: COAS Lauds Troops for Nation’s Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has commended the dedication and bravery of Nigerian Army troops in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

Speaking during the Chief of Army Staff Sallah Luncheon with Operation Whirl Punch troops in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, stressed the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” in the Islamic calendar. He noted that this celebration honors the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and faith exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.

The COAS, represented by the General Commanding Officer (GOC) of the I Division Nigeria Army and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, Maj-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, said “This year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration is particularly significant as it prompts us to reflect on our achievements and challenges over the past year, especially as I approach my first anniversary as Chief of Army Staff. It is a time to express gratitude for the gift of life, the relative peace we have restored to many parts of the country, and our hopes for a better Nigeria,” Lagbaja stated.

He highlighted the immense sacrifices made by the Nigerian Army, including the loss of brave soldiers and valuable equipment in ongoing battles against insurgency, terrorism, banditry, secessionist movements, and oil-related crimes. Despite these challenges, the troops have demonstrated exceptional courage and resilience, often at great personal cost.

“Many of our soldiers bear the marks of their bravery through battle scars and injuries, while others carry the memories and stories of their sacrifices for our beloved country,” he added.

Lagbaja urged Nigerian Army personnel and their families to renew their commitment to the nation’s growth and development. “Your dedication has not gone unnoticed, and I am committed to providing the leadership necessary for you to train, live, and fight effectively. Your efforts are crucial to our national security, and your sacrifices will be acknowledged,” he assured.

He also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support and leadership, and to the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff for their strategic guidance.
