Fire Razes 18 passengers On Niger Highway 

No fewer than 18 passengers traveling inside a bus were burnt beyond recognition at Gidan-Mangoro, along Minna-Bida road, Niger State.

WikkiTimes gathered that the tragic incident happened at 3 am on Saturday when an 18-seater bus rammed into a parked truck by the roadside before going up in flames.

“The burnt bus was said to be coming from Lagos and heading passengers to either Kano or Sokoto. Although, the bus destination is unknown to us”, a source said.

“The accident occurred while most people were asleep but people came to rescue around 5 am when the crowd started gathering at the scene. But the passengers and the bus had burnt beyond recognition,” he added.

However, two victims were rescued and taken to the IBB specialist hospital but one of them died while the second victim sustained serious burns. 

Niger State police spokesman, Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the incidents in a text, saying 18 passengers were burnt beyond recognition.

“On 18/06/2022 at about 0300hrs, an 18seater bus conveying about 20 persons coming from Lagos heading to Kano ran into a parked truck at Gidan-Mangoro area of Minna,” Abiodun said in a press statement.

He, however, stated as a result of the accident, the bus caught fire and 18 passengers got burnt beyond recognition while two other persons were rushed to hospital for treatment.

“Police operatives of the Command were mobilized to the scene along with other relevant agencies where the bodies were evacuated and later given a mass burial.

“However, members of the public are advised to avoid night journeys in order not to be a victim of such an unfortunate incident,” he advised.
