The Zamafara State Government has suspended the state’s Commandant of the Community Protection Guards (Askarawan Zamfara), Colonel Rabiu Garba Yandoto(rtd) few hours after he complained of government inability to fund their operations.
Yandoto had in a live program with Vision FM Radio Gusau on Monday, decried poor funding of the guards by the state government despite the sacrifices made by the members of guards, noting that four months after their inauguration, the were paid only once.
According to him, the guards were poorly funded, emphasizing that lack of logistics crippled their efforts in tackling banditry, aa most times he has to use his personal money to fuel their vehicle.
“We were paid our allowances only once since we assumed duty four months ago. Lack of funds and other logistics are responsible for our none performance”.
“You trained somebody, gave him a gun to fight criminals then you refuse to pay him his monthly allowance and you cannot fuel his vehicle. How do you expect him to perform”.
“I swear to God that since the time I assumed office in January this year as the Commandant of the state CPG, I collected only N98.000”.
“Similarly, I have been buying fuel with my own money whenever we are going out for operation. This can never happen anywhere in the world”, said Yandoto.
The Commandant further said all his efforts to meet the state governor were not fruitful, alleging that some individuals in the government were sabotaging the efforts of Governor Dauda in the fight against banditry.
“I know that, His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal is very much committed in the fight against banditry but there are some people in his cabinet who are sabotaging his good effort for their selfish reasons. I have tried to reach out to the Governor in order to notify him of the situation we are facing but he is not accessible”, he said.
However, the Zamfara State government in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Abubakar Nakwada on Wednesday, suspended the Rabiu Yandoto as the Commandant of the state Community Protection Guards.
“This is to inform the general public that, Zamfara state government has suspended Colonel Rabiu Garba as Commandant of the state Community Protection Guards. The suspension takes immediate effect”, partly read the statement.
