The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, Hayatu Usman, says the ban on sale and use of fireworks and knockouts is still in force in the state.
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Mahid Abubakar, on Saturday in Gombe.
Abubakar quoted Usman as saying that the ban was to prevent criminals from using it to perpetuate their intentions and creating tension during the festivities.
He also reiterated ban on unauthorised use of siren, covering number plates and removing motorcycle silencer during the Yuletide.
“The command wish to reiterate the continued ban and enforcement on sale and use of fireworks, knockout, siren and covering of number plates. Public compliance with these measures is crucial for the overall safety of law abiding citizens and visitors alike,” he said.
The CP said the command had intensified security measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of citizens during the upcoming Yuletide celebrations.
“This proactive approach is considered necessary in order to prevent criminal activities and maintain the relative peace for a hitch-free celebration across the state,” he said.
Usman said that he had directed early deployment of personnel to strategic locations, places of worship and other public places.
While reiterating the command’s commitment to protect lives and property, Usman residents of the state to be vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious activities to the police to ensure a crime free environment.
