The Gombe State Youth Parliament says it received with shock the industrial action embarked by Association of Resident Doctors at a crucial time the world is facing pandemic of COVID 19 and local health challenges of Lassa fever.

The parliament Commended the Gombe State Government for the numerous achievements recorded in a very short span of the administration of Inuwa Yahaya.

In a Press statement signed by the Speaker of Gombe State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Khalid Ahmed Kumo on Thursday appealed to the Association of Resident Doctors to suspend the industrial action for the interest of the common man.

”It is worth noting that most of the demands of the association are not peculiar to doctors alone, and were inherited from the previous administration, dating back more than three years.

“The government is fully aware of the concerns of the doctors and has already set in motion machinery to address holistically the problems in both short and long terms.

“As a short term measure, the government released the sum of Five Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N5.65m) to thirteen (13) house officers, all in an effort to cushion the effect of their delayed upgrade, pending the constitution of the civil service commission. Among other measures, the government has also established the hospital management board and the State Contributory Health Scheme in an effort to systematically address most of the yearnings with respect to promotions and upgrades for the entire sector, without limiting to only doctors.”

Kumo further said the demand of the association is genuine, but embarking on indefinite strike on this time considering the global pandemic and local health challenges of COVID19 and lassa fever.

”We are using this medium to urge the State Government to put all the modalities to settle the issues.”
