Google Developers Group hails FG’s plan to introduce coding in schools’ curriculum

The Google Developers Group (GDG) Gusau, a group of passionate developers, technology enthusiasts and technology entrepreneurs’ has hailed the Federal Government for its plan to introduce coding in schools’ curriculum in the country.

An Information Communication Technology Expert and member of the group Ibrahim Dattijo Makama made the commendation while delivering lecture on ICT during workshop for youth held at Ten O Seven Restaurant in Gusau, Zamfara state.

He noted that the organization is a group of experts interested in networking and coding adding that the event was aimed at sharing knowledge and ideas with youths in Zamfara state.

” The group brought for the first time DevFest to Gusau- the Zamfara State capital. DevFests are community-led, developer events hosted by GDG chapters around the globe focused on community building and learning about Google’s technologies”.He pointed out.

Also speaking, the Lead Organizer of the workshop Muhammad Murtala talked about the latest technologies and frameworks lunched by Google in 2018 such as Flutter, ArCore, etc and how developers can use those technologies in their projects.

Murtala said  the importance of computer science education and programming in the modern society are enormous.

“You aren’t too young or too old to start learning programming because it makes you think and act smarter irrespective of your age.” He noted.

The second speaker at the event Zainab Aliyu Zurmi, who made a presentation on Android Apps Development for Beginners taught the attendees how they could build a new or convert an existing project into a PWA.

In his remarks, Malam Abdulwahab Yusuf Shehu of the Federal College of Education Technical Gusau commended the organizers for such an educative and interactive program and further called on the organizers to keep the tempo.

“promote programming to high school students, so that when they reach tertiary institutions they would excel at whatever they do”.
