Three new cases of lassa fever have been confirmed in Buachi state, the Executive Secretatry Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed has said.

Dr. Rilwanu said although there are no cases of death as a result of the fever, said 3 have been confirmed out the 15 suspected cases of the disease in Bauchi.

He said the 15 suspected cases have been transferred to the national disease Control Center in Abuja for testing and authentication.

The Secretary said the national center for disease control has proposed to upgrade the lassa fever centre in Bauchi which he said has no dialysis machine for authentication of the disease.

The recent case of the disease in Bauchi according to Dr Rilwanu was that “a lady, who lives in Kano, came back to Bauchi to see her family and stayed for some days in Bauchi for some time and later travelled to a village in Toro LGA. “The highest and greatest risks LGAs in the state for Lassa fever are Toro, Bauchi and Tafawa Balewa.

“So, she went there and that was where the infection started but I don’t want to say anything more because as an epidemiologist, I don’t talk about what didn’t happen here in Bauchi. But the initial stage of the infection was Toro LGA.
