Three new cases of lassa fever have been confirmed in Buachistate, the Executive Secretatry Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development
Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed has said.Dr. Rilwanu said although there are no cases of death as a result of the fever, said 3 have been confirmed out the 15 suspected cases of the disease in Bauchi.
He said the 15 suspected cases have been transferred to thenational disease Control Center in Abuja for testing and authentication.
The Secretary said the national center for disease controlhas proposed to upgrade the lassa fever centre in Bauchi which he said has nodialysis machine for authentication of the disease.
The recent case of the disease in Bauchi according to DrRilwanu was that “a lady, who lives in Kano, came back to Bauchi to see herfamily and stayed for some days in Bauchi for some time and later travelled toa village in Toro LGA. “The highest and greatest risks LGAs in the state forLassa fever are Toro, Bauchi and Tafawa Balewa.
“So, she went there and that was where the infectionstarted but I don’t want to say anything more because as an epidemiologist, Idon’t talk about what didn’t happen here in Bauchi. But the initial stage ofthe infection was Toro LGA.
