Herder Chops Off Farmer’s Hand in Plateau

The police in Pleateu State have arrested a herder who reportedly cut-off the hand a farmer in the state.

Alabo Alfred, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Plateau Police Command disclosed this yesterday, identifying the suspect as Abdulrahman Kaila

The PPRO, who gave insight into the activities leading to the arrest of the herder, said: “When police got the news, the commissioner of police instructed the DPO to go after the perpetrator, and in a swift reaction of the DPO, the suspect was arrested, and he gave us his reason for cutting the hand of the farmer.”

The suspect, who did not deny the crime, explained that he did not mean to attack the farmer.

“I was grazing when the farmer stopped me and asked me to go back as the area where I was grazing is a rice farm. When I got back. He complained that his farm was destroyed by the cattle. I then pushed the cattle, and before you knew it, we started quarreling. While we were quarreling, I didn’t know how I cut off his hand. I did it out of my wish,” the police quoted him to have said.

The north central state has been a hotspot for farmers-herders crisis in some local councils, including Mangu where the crises broke out recently.
