Jigawa Simplifies Access to Free Drugs for Rural Dwellers

The Jigawa State government has on Sunday inaugurated a committee to facilitate the process by which rural dwellers could easily access free drugs across its 27 council areas.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Najib Umar explained that the committee was inaugurated through the office of the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Ahmed Garba.

Umar quoted the commissioner, at the inauguration, as saying that the objective of the gesture was to make it easier for poor people to access good healthcare services.

“The Scheme, a replica of the effort of the state government under the leadership of Governor Umar A. Namadi, to ensure that every citizen in the state enjoys free, qualitative and accessible health care services, is in line with the provisions of the Universal Health Coverage as spelt out by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“Huge amount of money was expended on the procurement of the items, so I urge you to ensure that the drugs are utilised judiciously and transparently,” Garba was quoted as telling the committee members.

Umar said that the commissioner assured that the ministry, under his watch, would continue evolving means and avenues that will help enhance the lives of the people in the 27 Local Governments of the state.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that he also quoted the Technical Adviser to Governor Namadi on Health-related matters, Alhaji Isah Suraja, as commending the commissioner for making the initiative a reality.
