Just In: Gombe Islamic Cleric, Maigona Dies

An Islamic cleric in Gombe state Sheikh Abdulrahman Maigona has passed on in Saudi Arabia.

Maigona who is a board member at the Gombe State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board died Thursday evening in Saudi Arabia where he went for pilgrimage.

Our correspondent gathered that the Islamic scholar’s death occurred shortly after the completion of this year’s ‘hajj’ (pilgrimage).

Until his demise, the Sheikh was the chief imam of Izala Mosque 8 in the state, lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies of the Gombe State University and was appointed member of the Pilgrims Board by the state Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

Meanwhile, Governor Inuwa mourned the death of the cleric and described it as a sad event.

The governor in his condolence message signed by the director general press affairs government house Gombe Ismaila Uba Misilli said he has received the news with sadness.

He described the late religious leader as a great scholar who lived a simple life and spent the greater part of his life propagating Islamic ideals and guiding people in the service of Almighty Allah and the path of Prophet Muhammad ( SAW).

“His death is a huge loss, not only to the deceased’s immediate family but the entire state and the nation.

“I extend the condolences of the Government and people of Gombe state to the bereaved family, his associates, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the management and staff of Gombe State University where the deceased served as a lecturer at the department of Islamic studies as well as the entire Muslim ummah in the state”, he said.
