All Progressives Congress’ Usman Ododo, has been declared winner of Kogi State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared him winner this evening.
Professor Johnson Urama, the returning officer who doubles as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, announced the result, saying Ododo won with total votes of 446,237.
He defeated his closest contender, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052, while Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 46,362 votes.
The announcement came amid concerns that the poll was compromised in some polling units.
Yesterday, Melaye claimed that results were tampered with in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the North Central state.
He further called for suspension of the exercise, citing violence and vote buying.
Subsequently, INEC suspended election in nine wards in the local government area.
