Kaduna Women Protest Hardship After 2 Children Died of Hunger

A group of women and children stormed the streets of Rigasa, Kaduna State, protesting abject poverty and hunger as two children died of hunger after consuming salted water.

The group, while chanting “hunger, hunger, Tinubu”, expressed their grievances over the unbearable hike in food stuff.

Speaking to AGG Multimedia Services, some of the protesters confirmed that the two children had recently died of hunger in their community after starving for four days.

“We have never experienced hardship as such. 2 children had just died after going 4 days without food. Their mother couldn’t bear their suffering so she fed them boiled salted water to ease their hunger, but they all died,” one of the women said.

“We don’t have food, help us. I have been sick, but I had to come join my fellow women and express my grievances,” another decried.

Also, some of the women bemoaned that they had orphans to cater for and had to resort to street begging to feed them.

“We are helpless. We are calling on President Tinubu to come to our aid. We are in a desperate situation. All we are asking for is affordable food and nothing more,” another woman said.

Further decrying the high cost of food, the women said they are compelled to purchase food items on credit.

“Rice amounts to N1,700 per measure and spaghetti costs N500. We have no choice but to purchase them on credit because we can’t afford it,” they said.
