Kogi Govt Promises Improved Welfare for Teachers

The Kogi Government has promised an improved  welfare package for teachers as motivation to deliver quality education in the state.

Mr Joel Salifu, Deputy Governor of the state, gave the assurance at a three-day “Education Study Circle Leadership” workshop for members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Salifu said that Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s administration within three months in office had been fulfilling the promises made to teachers during the electioneering campaign.

Salifu, a former Chairman of NUT in Kogi, noted that there had been tremendous improvement in teachers welfare in the state particularly at the local government level.

He appreciated teachers in the state for voting massively for the Ododo/Salifu ticket during the Nov. 11, 2023 governorship election.

Salifu appreciated former Gov. Yahaya Bello, for giving them full recognition in the state, saying that posterity would never forget him.

The deputy gov. commended Ododo for his love for the teachers and the entire people of the state.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Ododo’s administration to continue to make teachers happy by fulfilling its promises towards improving their well-being.

“NUT is where I come from; I am happy to be here today because I always belong to NUT, and I am proud to be part of Ododo’s administration.

“We have seen a lot of promises being fulfilled for teachers within three months of this administration and it will continue.

“What has happened within three months of Ododo’s administration was unprecedented.

“I know as a talk and do governor, there are betters days ahead for teachers,” Salifu said.

The deputy gov. commended the past state chairmen and executives of NUT for their commitment to the plight of teachers.

He urged the teachers and the people of the state to continue to support the Governor and his administration to move the state forward.

Earlier, the National Coordinator, NUT Study Circle Leadership Project, Mr Solomon Igbelowowa, said that the workshop was to enhance and build the capacity of teachers for effective performance.

“We are expected as teachers to be an embodiment of knowledge, skills and excellence, and NUT is poised to deliver that at all times,” he said.

Igbelowowa appreciated the deputy governor for associating with them as a teacher and former NUT chairman.

On his part, the state NUT Deputy Chairman, Mr Seun Ayorinde, commended the deputy governor for honouring the invite in spite of his busy schedule.

Ayorinde assured of continuous support of teachers for Ododo’s  administration in order to ensure outstanding success for the benefits of the people of the state. (NAN)
