Meet two ABU students that break 40 years first class jinx in political science

For the first time since the days of Late Mal. Saidu Adamu who bagged first class in political science 40 years ago in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU), two graduates of the university have broken the four decades jinx to emerged first class graduates in the same discipline.

Abdulaziz Dahiru Dawet and Mohammed Abdullahi Lere, both emerged with first-class degrees from the prestigious university this year with a cumulative CGPA of 4.52.

Reacting to his ground-breaking record, Abdulaziz Dahiru Dawat who congratulated himself and his colleague had also taken to his Twitter to dedicate his achievements to the Almighty Allah for breaking the many years record by graduating with first-class in BSc Political Science.

On his part, Mohammed Abdullahi Lere who gave the glory to God almighty also eulogies his friend and political science comrade with whom he was able to break the record with the same CGPA.

“The journey was tough but at the end of the day, the end has justified the means. I want to congratulate all graduating students and I pray that God will bless the certificates”, he said.

Political science and department of International Studies in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria is one of the oldest academic departments founded not long after the establishment of the University itself in 1962.

It was created along with those of sociology and economics, after approval was given for faculty of arts and social sciences in 1966/1967 session.

 The first student to bag first class at the department of political science was in the 80s; he was Late Mal. SAIDU HASSAN ADAMU who later became one of the best lecturers in the department. He died in 2017.
