Midnight Inferno Razes Shops in Bauchi Community

Over one hundred shops, stalls and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed by a midnight inferno in Misau Central Market of Misau local government area of Bauchi state.

one of the victim, Nasir Ahmed told WikkiTimes that even though the cause of the fire outbreak is still unkown, many shops were razed down by the fire.


Some of the items sold in these affected include; food items, vegetables, palm oil and stores petty traders kept their items.

“I was asleep when one of my neighbors in the market called, telling me that there is fire outbreak in the market. I hurriedly left for the market and behold everywhere is filled with people trying to put off the fire”. Nasir noted.

” It started around 1:30amand it touched right from Layin ‘yan Koli, some portion of ‘yan Gwari and parts of mahauta. The damage is too much as at now we can access the value of items lost. I know of a trader whose food items worth over one million naira were burnt down” Nasir said.

NEMA cautions traders against fire outbreaks

The victim who said timely arrival of people helped put off the fire before it could cause more damage.

“My neighbors shop was completely razed down,he recently bought new products in this period where prices skyrockets. I can’t imagine how he is fells now but we consider it as an act of God”, said Muhammed, another trade whose shop was partially touched by the fire.

Alhaji Salisu Malami, the Chairman Traders Association, Misau LGA chapter said the extent of damages is huge, noting that as at now,they are yet to have the exact figure of valuables lost as many traders are in grief over the calamity that has befallen them.

“On behalf of the leadership of Misau traders Association, we here by extend our sympathy to all of us affected by this calamity. Many traders lost their properties worth millions of naira and we are praying that may the Almighty Allah give us the fortitude to bear it.
” We are grateful to the people who came en mass despite the time of the incident to help us and the security agencies who were there to ensure safety of our properties not yet touched by the fire as hoodlums may take the advantage”, said Salisu in a statement.

There have been no official reaction from government agencies on the cause of the fire as of the time of this report.
