MRA Executive Director Bags FOI Champion of Decade Award

The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) Executive Director, Mr Edetaen Ojo has bagged a “Freedom of Information Champion of the Decade ” award. 

The Digital SENSE Africa Media, in commemoration of the 2024 Nigeria DIGITAL SENSE Forum on Internet Governance for Development held in Lagos, presented Mr. Edetaen with the award.

Mr. Eze Anaba, President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and Ms. Maureen Chigbo, President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), jointly presented the award to Mr. Ojo at the event that coincided with the 15th anniversary of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum.

Consequently, Sir Remmy Nweke, Lead Consulting Strategist at DigitalSENSE Africa Media, inducted Mr. Ojo and other awardees into the DigitalSENSE Africa Hall of Fame, and presented him with a DigitalSENSE Africa medallion.

DigitalSENSE Africa recognized Mr. Ojo with the award “for your significant contributions to the industry over the years.”

Mr. Ojo was among several individuals and corporate entities honored at the event for their roles in enhancing Internet penetration, improving accessibility and affordability, and fostering technological innovation that promotes digital awareness in Nigeria, according to DigitalSENSE Africa.

Other recipients included Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, former Secretary to the Government of Akwa-Ibom State; Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA); Dr. Chris Nwannenna, Managing Director of Condata Systems Limited; Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON); Mr. Francis Uzor, Managing Director of Wizzyhub Technologies; Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria; Mr. Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN); and Mr. Muhammed Rudman, Managing Director of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN).

Corporate entities recognized included the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Digital Realty Nigeria (formerly Medallion), Upland College, and Welcome Center Hotels.

Sir Nweke emphasized that these awards were a gesture of appreciation for the ongoing support from both individuals and corporations, which has significantly contributed to DigitalSENSE Africa’s efforts in advancing Internet penetration, accessibility, affordability, and technological innovation in Nigeria.

DigitalSENSE Africa is an At-Large Structure (ALS) accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a global multistakeholder organization headquartered in the United States, responsible for coordinating the Internet’s critical infrastructure.
