MTN Denies Clearing Airtime Debt, Says It Was A ‘System Glitch’

MTN has burst the bubble for subscribers who have taken airtime and data debt.

In the wee hours of today, MTN users flooded social media platforms, celebrating the debt cancellation in their various accounts. 

On Facebook, for instance, many MTN customers took to their timelines to show a picture of their account balance to jubilate the development, as seen here and here.

However, the network provider in an X post, clarified that it was due to a network glitch and all user debts remain uncleared.

The post read: “MTN Nigeria Communications Plc can confirm a system glitch impacting balance enquiries. As a result, some customers may receive error messages showing that their balances have been cleared. 

“This is not the case and all balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved. Our engineers are currently working to ensure this.

The development has sparked outrage amongst Nigerians on social media, 

Twitter user alamyeenMS commented “MTn kenan ba amana. You can’t be good for once.

Another angry user,  @princedmax added: “Useless company, with how much you guys keep making in Nigeria…..how do you guys give back to the society during these hard times?”
