My Sacking Temporary Setback – Bauchi Speaker

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman has described the ruling of the court of appeal sitting in Abuja which nullified his re-election as a minor political setback.

The court set aside the earlier judgement of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed Sulaiman’s victory.

The appellate court on Friday ordered a rerun election in 10 polling units in Speaker Sulaiman’s constituency, Ningi Central.

He said the ten polling units where the rerun election will be conducted are his stronghold. He said his chances of winning the rerun are high.

Sulaiman said that although the judgement is unfavourable, as a Muslim he believes in all fates.

The Speaker said the rerun election will afford him an opportunity to further widen the margin between him and his closet opponent.

Sulaiman blamed his political opponents for his travails at the appeal court, wondering why his opponents insisted on extending their pain of election defeat.

He said all efforts by his political opponents to scuttle his effort to bring unprecedented development to his constituents would be futile.

While pleading with his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, the Speaker said he accepted the ruling of the appellate court with good faith.
