My second test for COVID-19 returns negative—Bauchi Gov

Bauchi state governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed says his second examination result for coronavirus has tested negative.

The governor made the disclosure on his twitter handle at about 6:14 pm on Thursday.

“Alhamdulillahi. I just received the green light. M y second test for COVID-19 returned negative. I thank you all for your prayers and support even while I was in isolation”, the Governor twitted.

In a second tweet, governor Bala added that “My gratitude goes to our religious leaders within and outside the state for their constant prayers and our meticulous Bauchi COVID-19 team”

Confirming the development, the Special Assistant to the Governor on new media, Lawal Muazu Bauchi said “the result was release this evening and we thank God that it came out negative”.

With the development, “the governor will likely come out any moment from now”, Lawal Mua’azu has added.

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that there was some controversy between the Bauchi state government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control regarding the actual number of people who have tested positive for the virus.

While NCDC argues that Bauchi state had a total of 8 cases, the state government insists it has only 4 patients who have tested positive for the virus.

The state deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela who is the head of the special tasks force on COVID-19 in the State said at a press conference that the NCDC had made a mistake and recounted those who had earlier tested positive for the virus as new cases.

“What happened was that the NCDC made a mistake by recounting those that had already tested positive and where under treatment as new cases.

“Even though we equally share part of the blame because when we complained to them about the error, they told us that we would have labeled the samples properly to suggest that they were meant for re-examination”, Baba Tela said.

“So want to assure the people of Bauchi State that we don’t have additional cases apart from the 4 that are under treatment”, he insisted.
