Nasarawa Police Command Bans Vigilante Group Operations

The Nasarawa State Police Command has banned operation of all ethnic and community vigilantee groups in the state, warning that anyone caught operating will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

 Citing Executive Order No.1, 2024, the police warned that ethnic vigilante groups such as Kungiyar Zaman Lafia Nomad Vigilante, Bassa Vigilante, Eggon Vigilante among others were proscribed, calling on members of such organizations to hand over all their uniforms and working tools to the nearest police formation within a two week timeframe.

Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa State Police Command spokesman in a statement on Thursday, said any movement, association or group of persons with the motive of providing security among a particular ethnic group through the use of force or arms is unlawful in the state, noting that full enforcement is with immediate effect.

“In Reference to the Executive Order No.1 the 2024 on the proscription of Ethnic vigilante groups and other similar organizations, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shehu Umar Nadada psc, mni wishes to inform the good people of Nasarawa State, most especially the Kungiyar Zaman Lafia Nomad vigilante, Bassa vigilante, Eggon vigilante and other “similar organizations” which includes any association, movement or group of persons or society in whatever name called or form, with the aim and objectives of providing security amongst particular ethnic group within Nasarawa State through the use of force or arms that their activities or operations is hereby banned”.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police has ordered all Area Commanders, Divisional Police officers, Heads of Department/Tactical teams in the Command to carry out full enforcement of the Ban”.

“He therefore warn all members of the groups to hand over all uniforms and accoutrements in their possession to the Area Commanders or Divisional Police officers closest to their areas within two weeks from the date of this pronouncement; as anyone caught operating or found to be in possession of prohibited firearms will be arrested and made to bear the full wrath of the law”, said Ramhan.

WikkiTimes recalled that the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, was arrested by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency on January 23, 2024, at the group’s office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State for allegedly unveiling a militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya and has been in custody, after being arraigned for terrorism charges.
