Operatives of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have nabbed a notorious drug kingpin, Jamilu Zakari of Kofar Idi, Kandahar in Bauchi metropolis with 125 blocks of substances suspected to be cannabis weighed 146kgs.
Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters Abuja, in a statement on Sunday said Jamilu, 32, was arrested by operatives of the agency in Bauchi while on a routine check on their hideouts.
He added that operatives of the agency were also successful in apprehending another 123 blocks of cannabis along Gombe-Bauchi road being trafficked by a suspect named Abdullahi Muhammed Bello.
“While 123 blocks of cannabis weighing 73kgs were recovered from a suspect, Abdullahi Muhammad Bello along Gombe-Bauchi road, Gombe state on Wednesday 29th Nov, operatives in Abuja seized 168 blocks of same psychoactive substance with a total weight of 101kgs from the store of a fleeing drug dealer in Kabusa area of the FCT”, he said.
Femi, in the statement, added that operatives of the agency were also able to recover no fewer than 8,000 bottles of codeine syrup when they intercepted a vehicle carrying the opioid along Abuja-Kaduna road, while another 44.4 kilograms of compressed cannabis sativa were seized from another kingpin along Gwantu-Sanga road in Kaduna State.
He added that in Kogi, NDLEA officers arrested 18-year-old Ahmad Umar, with 46.4kgs cannabis at a checkpoint in Kabba.
The statement quoted Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd), the agency’s chairman commending the efforts of the officers in the fight against drug trafficking and drug abuse.
