Niger Gov Sacks Electoral Body Boss Pardoned by Predecessor

Umaru Mohammed Bago, Niger State Governor, has sacked Baba Aminu, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) over “misconduct.”

The embattled NSIEC boss was pardoned by former governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, after he was indicted and sacked by the Niger State House of Assembly on September 27, 2022.

But in a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, the dissolution affected other appointees of the commission.

The governor instructed that all appointees in the commission to handover affairs of their offices to the most senior civil servants and vaccate the premises.

The SSG explained that the NSIEC dissolution takes effect from May 29 when the new administration assume office.

“Members of the commission are directed to hand over all property of the state government in their possession to the most senior Director with immediate effect,” he stated.
