NNPP Senatorial Candidate, Farouk Mustapha defects to APC

A former senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for Bauchi north during the 2019 general election, Honourable Farouk Mustapha has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The state publicity secretary of the APC in Bauchi Adamu Jallah in a press statement issued to journalists on Thursday said “Mustapha defected alongside his 92, 000 supporters” back to the APC.

Farouk who contested against Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa lost to the former during the 2019 election that was marred by alleged irregularities.

In the built-up to APC party primaries in 2019, Bulkachuwa emerges candidate of the APC in a controversial primary election.

Political pundits in Bauchi described Farouk as “an independent minded” politician who was seen as a threat to former Bauchi State governor, MA Abubakar.

The former Bauchi governor was believed to be the sole benefactor to Bulkachuwa’s emergence as senator.

Farouk who lost to Bulkachuwa at court trials described the 2019 elections at the time as “falling below standard.”

WikkiTimes recalls that the Jos division of the Court of Appeal validated an earlier ruling made by the election’s petition tribunal in Bauchi which dismissed a petition by Mr. Farouk against the victory of Adamu Bulkachuwa.

Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa is the husband to Nigeria’s Former Court of Appeal President, Zainab Bulkachuwa.

Farouk is mulled to be eyeing governorship seat come 2023.

He recently married off his daughter in his home town, Azare, a gathering that attracted the high and mighty.
