Northern States Receive over N4 billion as Ecological Fund in Two Months 

Data review by WikkiTimes has shown that Northern States received a total sum of N4.983 billion as Ecological Fund in the first two months of 2024.

According to the data review, Kano received the highest amount of N376 million for the first two months under review while Kaduna received the second highest amount of N311 million.

Further analysis shows that Kwara received the lowest amount of N211 million for the first two months under review.

About Ecological Funds

The ecological fund was set-up to mitigate against ecological problems in the country. The fund was set up in 1981 through the federation accounts act. 

There have been controversies surrounding the management of the funds in the country. In 2022, the SERAP asked for a probe of the fund management.

North central states such as Kogi, Niger state have been plagued by flooding, a development that has led to loss of lives and properties.

The Presidency has also lamented the management of ecological funds, noting that states have to explain how it managed the fund.
