WIKKIDATA: Northern States Receive N341 Billion FAAC Allocation in Two Months

A WikkiTimes review has shown that Northern States received the sum of N341 billion between January and February 2024.

This is according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics and reviewed by WikkiTimes.

Data review shows that Kano state got the highest amount for the two months under review with N28 billion, followed by Borno at N21 billion.

Kwara, Kogi and Gombe got the least allocations , with the sum of N15 billion each.

Proper Management of FAAC Allocation Key to Northern States Budget Execution

WikkiTimes analysis has shown that Northern states largely rely on federation accounts committee allocation to fulfil its fiscal obligations.

For instance, a report by WikkiTimes earlier showed that with only IGR, no Northeastern state would have executed 15% of its budget estimate, showing the importance of proper management of the monies paid to them by the federal government.

Already, there are concerns on the “over-reliance” of states on federal allocation for revenue generation and the danger this poses for states development.

While these states rely heavily on federal allocations which are usually not enough, insufficiency and poor management of the allocations have left many states wallowing in debt, hereby spending their scarce resource on public debt charges.

Experts told WikkiTimes that states must look at innovative methods for revenue generation to surmount the debacle of inability to meet up budget projections and fiscal needs.
